| Am I the only one here who LOVES those old DOS games? Mind, I wasn't even a gamer back then, but playing them today, I know I would definitely miss them if I had been one. So, what are your favourite DOS games?
Mine is definitely Commander Keen. | |

| Disk Operating System... I can't explain it well, but it's pretty much what Windows 95 and 98 ran on. | |

| Oh god, there used to be this game that my grandma had and it looked like it might have been the first 3D game with color. Basically you went around in this arena and tried to get these flags before the CPU's did. | |

| My god! A DOS Thread!? The last game I think I remember having shitons of fun playing was the game called T.I.M (The Incredible Machine) which I spent hours on perfecting as a kid. I also played another game in which you had to run around collecting keys and opening doors to avoid monsters and collect computer chips. It was creatively named "Chip". | |

| I vaguely remember playing lemmings on DOS, I also had it for the SNES but the game always seemed more friendly with a mouse than a console controller (and commander keen was awesome!!). | |

| No, your not the only one that plays DOS games. My childhood was DOS games! All these games I have posted are FULL Versions, legally able to be downloaded. Most DOS games were either made Freeware by the Developer/Publisher or became Abondonware. Allowing legal downloads of the games. Just check the games File Type for more information. The Hugo Series Hugo 1: House of Horrors [Great game, must play.]
Hugo 2: Whodunit? [Sort of like CLUE]
Hugo 3: Jungle of Doom [Best of the series.]
The Elder Scroll Series The Elder Scrolls: Arena [A must for any Elder Scrolls fan. The CD-ROM version was the better version however]
The Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall [If you've never played DaggerFall, you MUST!]In order to play these games, or any other DOS games for that matter on XP or higher, you need an emulator. http://www.dosbox.com/download.php?main=1Download, Install, Follow Readme. Walkthrough For those of you that can't understand what to do, here is a walkthrough by me. - Spoiler:
For Windows Users. Open your main hard drive (Example C:\ ) Create folder, name it GAMES. Copy DOS game folder from disk or downloaded copy into folder (Example: C:\GAMES\Hugo3\ ) With DOSBox Installed, go to it's program folder. (Example: C:\Program Files\DOSBox-0.74 ) Open "DOSBox 0.74 Options", Scroll down to bottom of text file. Under [autoexec] type " mount C C:\GAMES ", ONLY changing "C:" to your drive letter. Underneath that type C:, again changing it to your drive letter. Example: [autoexec] # Lines in this section will be run at startup. # You can put your MOUNT lines here. mount C C:\GAMES C: Open DOSBox, the [autoexec] should have set everything up. You should see: Z:\>mount C C:\GAMES Drive C is mounted as local directory C:\GAMES\ Z:\>C: C:\> Again C: being your drive letter. If you see that everything is perfect. You never have to do that part again. Just copy the game over to the GAMES folder than follow the 3 easy steps below. Now type dir , and you should see a directory appear, listing all the folders in your GAMES Folder. (Example C:\>dir) Find the game you want to play, then type cd then the games folder name (Example C:\>cd HUGO3) You should now be in the games folder, now just type the name of the games .exe file, and it should run. (Example C:\HUGO3>Hugo.exe) Hope you found this useful!

Ah yes, Don't I love Text-Adventures / Point n Click Adventures
I could go on forever with these commands, playing Police Quest 2 and Privateer, and Privateer, and Privateer.
But I'll leave it there, you get the point already.
By the way, OP, Good for you for telling everyone about Dosbox, They'll probably still have to take FOREVER to figure that shit out, like I had to. Its now hard-wired into my brain, but its SAWL-GOOD

| When i was young i use to never be able to play on the computer because i was so poor, but my cousin had a computer and the first DOS game i played was Quake (I was like 5 or 7 at the time) and Quake scared me so bad because it was so much gore for my poor little mind that i had to quit and cry in the corner. And the game still scares me a bit but still love how people could make it such a good game :3~~ Oh then i played a weird game that still today i don't know what its called but i hope u guys/girls can help me. :C It was a game where you were a gigantic war robot like one of those gigantic robots in metal gear with the 2 legs and u had to destroy stuff which made me so amazed and was addicting for me ^~^ Ty for any1 who has read these and i hope some1 could answer me 11-9 year mystery! :3 | |
